At OptiMantra, we believe EMRs should be built with providers, not just for them. That’s why many of our product experts are providers and have firsthand experience running their own successful clinics.
In this spotlight, we’re excited to introduce Dr. Ren Bedasbad, a Naturopathic Doctor, Licensed Acupuncturist, and long-time OptiMantra user who now serves as a demo and onboarding specialist—helping new and prospective clients understand the platform from a clinician’s perspective.
Walking the Walk: A Decade of Practice and Perspective
Dr. Ren Bedasbad has been practicing integrative medicine for over 10 years. His career began with Lumos Medical Center, a five-provider clinic in Bend, Oregon, focused on family medicine, pain management, and fertility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, like so many other providers, he transitioned to a fully virtual model and rebranded as Sol and Serenity Integrative Medicine, serving patients across seven states, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and Minnesota.
Throughout all these changes, OptiMantra remained his EMR of choice.
“I tested other systems, but I always came back to OptiMantra,” he shares. “It’s the combination of flexibility, customer support, and functionality that’s kept me here for 10 years.”
Discovering OptiMantra as a New Provider
Dr. Bedasbad first encountered OptiMantra while attending AANP as a student. When he was ready to launch his practice, he was looking for an EMR that was:
- Easy to use with natural workflows
- Robust enough to support multiple modalities
- Fully digital and paperless
- Backed by responsive customer service
- Cost-effective for small teams
He recalls his onboarding experience as smooth and well-supported: “I met with members of the onboarding team through video calls, and even our insurance biller got direct support. As we hired staff, the support team was always quick to jump in and help.”
From Provider to Demo Specialist
During the early pandemic years, as he adjusted to a telemedicine-only model, Dr. Bedasbad reconnected with the OptiMantra team. OptiMantra’s leadership asked if he would be open to helping with product demos and onboarding calls, sharing his experience with prospective clients.
Since then, he’s helped hundreds of providers see the platform through a clinician’s lens.
“Clinics appreciate knowing the person on the other end has walked in their shoes. I understand what they need, often before they finish explaining it. And I can suggest real-world solutions based on how I use the platform every day. I have done many different roles in Optimantra, including live trainings, masterclass, onboarding, and demos.”
Advice for Practices Evaluating EMRs
“If someone is unhappy with their current EMR, then don't hesitate to switch. The EMR is like the life-blood of a clinic and you use it all day, every day. If it isn't meeting your expectations, then you need to switch for that piece of mind.,” says Dr. Bedasbad. “OptiMantra does make switching easy with the importing of past EMR data, as well as consent and forms, and its robust onboarding. While it may be daunting to learn a new program, within a few weeks you will wonder why you didn't just switch sooner. The OptiMantra team will help you with the transition and training so it will be a very comfortable experience.”
Favorite Feature: Fast, Seamless Checkout
As a solo telemedicine provider, Dr. Bedasbad values efficiency.
“Being a telemedicine only provider, I no longer have any staff. The charting to check out experience is very seamless, even when I'm doing it myself. I can automatically import the past chart note and make simple changes for the visit. Then all the billing information instantly loads into the superbill, so I can check out a patient in seconds.”
A Fun Fact: Musician at Heart
Outside of medicine and demos, Dr. Bedasbad has a musical side: “I play guitar and used to perform at a restaurant for many years. Music’s still a big part of my life.”
