Jeuveau vs. BotoxJeuveau is a botulinum toxin type A injection used in the treatment of wrinkles. It’s also sometimes called the new Botox or “Newtox” for short because it’s a new version of the same active ingredient used in original Botox Cosmetic injections.
Both Botox and Jeuveau contain the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A. This is neurotoxin that works by relaxing muscles beneath the skin. When used as a wrinkle treatment, these types of injections create a smoother appearance in the skin. Both Jeuveau and Botox give temporary results, with effects lasting between three to six months. However, people tend to experience longer-lasting results with Jeuveau.
Notably, the proteins in Jeuveau are smaller and more uniform than Botox. Therefore, it may lead to a slightly quicker onset of action for Jeuveau than Botox.
Does Jeuveau have FDA approval? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Jeuveau for the treatment of wrinkles in February 2019.
Preparing for JeuveauBefore receiving Jeuveau injections for frown lines we will have a consultation appointment with you to get an in-depth understanding of your skin concerns and aesthetic need. We will determine how many injections you need, as well as which specific areas of your face to treat. We will review the plan for treatment, discuss the benefits and risks of your treatment, and make sure all of your questions are answered.
How does Jeuveau work?During your consultation, your provider will outline a plan they will implement during your treatment session. The procedure for Jeuveau usually consists of the following:
- Your provider will wipe off any makeup or other cosmetics covering the area of treatment.
- Next, they will inject Jeuveau into five sites around your frown lines, using several small injections.
- The process takes up to 15 minutes. Once the injections are completed, you’re free to leave with no downtime required.
- As the botulinum toxin takes hold, your underlying muscles will relax and create a smoother appearance in your frown lines. You may start noticing slight results right away, with full results developing in about a week.
What to Expect After Getting Jeuveau TreatmentUnlike cosmetic surgery, there’s no downtime needed for wrinkle injections. You may go back to work and resume other activities as normal, although we do recommend not exercising for 24hours post injection.
The effects of botulinum toxin injections will naturally wear off after several months. You will need to schedule a new round of injections to maintain your results every 3-4 months.
How much does Jeuveau cost?Treatments are assessed by the number of units. Our per unit cost is $12/unit. Your provider will review the number of units required during your consultation visit and will provide you with the full estimated cost. A payment plan can be arranged, if needed. You may also choose to sign up for our do rewards program that provides $40 off every 90 days.
