Therapeutic phlebotomy is a medical procedure that involves the removal of 500 mL of blood to help reduce elevated hematocrit and improve blood viscosity. This service is commonly recommended for patients undergoing testosterone therapy or those with conditions that increase red blood cell levels. By lowering hematocrit, phlebotomy can help decrease the risk of complications such as blood thickening, headaches, fatigue, and cardiovascular strain.
The procedure itself typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes, followed by a brief recovery period where patients are monitored to ensure they feel well before leaving. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well and are able to return to normal activities shortly after. Hydration before and after the visit is encouraged to support recovery.
This service is performed in a safe, controlled clinical setting with proper monitoring before, during, and after treatment to ensure patient comfort and safety.
